Rarely will a person engaging in persistent substance use and not experience some level of depression or serious destabilization of their mood. With a return to normal sleep schedules, diet and physical activity, some will find these symptoms resolve themselves.
For others, they may find that the depression or severe mood swings (Bipolar Disorder) are what fueled their substance use in the first place. In these cases we provide education allowing clients to learn about their symptoms without the influence of drugs and alcohol, incorporate medication management and assessment by a psychiatrist into their treatment plan if necessary, and help them find their own motivation for change.
